symmetry/asymmetry.

In thss assignment we got the opportunity to test our idea sketching skills.

On an A4 landscape page, draw four equal squares. Create 4 more pages in this way. So, you’ll have 5 pages with four squares on each. Draw one or two squares or rectangles in each empty square to achieve the following visual effects (refer to your textbook, p.41 as guidance). You can work with the interaction of rectangles and squares to make the balance or imbalance more evident.
Movement to the left
Movement to the right
Movement downwards
Movement upwards
Balance
Tension
Symmetry/asymmetry
Produce at least two different versions of each effect, recording your results each time. Explain in one or two sentences what you wanted to achieve (as shown in your manual). Submit your drawings and findings on Moodle.

ide

1. Movement to the left
Two squares and rectangles are placed at the left side, telling our mind that the objects are moving left.

2. Movement to the right
Two squares and rectangles are placed at the right side, telling our mind that the objects are moving right.

ide 3

3. Movement downwards
One rectangle and two squares are placed at the bottom of the drawing to tell us that they are moving downwards.

4. Movement upwards
One rectangle and two squares are placed at the top of the drawing to tell us that they are moving upwards.

ide 2

5. Balance
When the three squares are placed in the middle, it becomes balanced.

6. Tension
The small piece placed at the top and side, suggest that they are going to fall or break.

ide 1

7. Symmetry
All the rectangles are the same size, and it becomes symmetry.

8. Asymmetry
The rectangles and squares are not the same size, and it becomes asymmetric.

pace and contrast.

This learning activity is about to compare the design of an online magazine, blog or website to that of a printed magazine, book or journal. I am going to tell you what difference i can see between the kinds of design strategies used in the two format. I chose the magazine Costume.

Online.

In the online version it is so much more that is going on. You have the advertising, the slideshow of pictures and it is difficult to read since it is so much going on at the same time. It can also be hard to find what you are looking for when it is so much text and pictures on the page.

Printed.

This printed version is so much better to read. You have the overview, and there is not any form of advertising which is good, because then you can read the article, without being distracted in any way. Since the background of the article is white, and the text is black it all seems so much “cleaner” and it gives it a great contrast.

When you read a magazine online, you just scroll down the page and you don`t read everything, but the printed version makes it better to sit and read it. In the online version you have to click on the article you want to read, but in the printed version you can just read, it is better to read and it is no that stressful.

I decided to make a brochure for travels to Los Angeles. Since i have been there myself, i thought it would be great to make this brochure. I have used blue tones in all my pages. The font that i have used in the headlines is Little days, and on the text i have used Minion pro.

basic principles of layout.

In this assignment were we should take a magazine, newspaper or a book, i decided to take a magazine. The task was to lay tracing paper over the top of three spreads, using a pencil and ruler, carefully trace the grid underlying the page layouts. Remember to remove specific text elements or images, and to only draw the grid lines. Note column widths and margin sizes at the top, bottom, and to the left and right of the main body of text. Is your document based on a two-column, three-column, or another type of grid? Which element stay the same on each page, and which change?

In this assignment i chose to take an article in my Det Nye magazine.

In this article the column width is 6,5 cm. The margin size at the top is 8 cm, the bottom is 1,9 cm and both left and right sides are 2 cm. This document are based on three-column. Both sides are almost the same, except the image on the right side, since the image is placed there, the three columns aren`t the same as those three at the left side.
