The second learning activity this week was to pick a photograph from the 19th century and write a think piece, and what you think about the photograph. This assignment was to hand in as a PDF-file. This is the photograph that i chose.
deliving deeper into the history of photography, task one.
In this learning activities about the history of photography this week, we have learned about old photographs and miscellaneous camera types. The first task was to pick three events in the timeline from this week`s lesson. History of Photograpy: An introduction, and find photographs of the event on the internet or in the library and write a paragraph explaining the event in more detail, include your photographs in the description.
The three events i chose was the Pinhole Camera, Color Photographs & Dry plate negatives and hand-held cameras.
THE PINHOLE CAMERA
lhazen (Ibn Al-Haytham), a great authority on optics in the Middle Ages who lived around 1000AD, invented the first pinhole camera. A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture. Its a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. The light from a scene passes through this single point, and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box. It works in the same way as the human eye in bright lights.
Up to a certain point, the smaller the hole of the camera is, the sharper the image is, and the dimmer projected the image. Because a pinhole camera requires a lengthy exposure, its shutter may be manually operated, as with a flap make of light-proof material to cover, and uncover the pinhole.
COLOR PHOTOGRAPS
On a summer day in 1827, Joseph Nicephore Niepce made the first photographic image with a camera obscura. Color photographs was brought to the market in the 1940`s. Color photographs is photography which uses media to representing colors which are traditionally produced during the photographic processing phase. Black and white photography records only a single channel of brightness and uses media capable only for showing different shades of grey.
In color photography, is it light-sensitive chemicals or electroning sensors who record the color information at the time of the exposure. This usually is done by analyzing the spectrum of colors into three channels for information, one is dominated by red, one by green and the third and last one, by blue.
DRY PLATE NEGATIVES AND HAND-HELD CAMERAS
In 1879 the dry plate was invented. It is a glass negative plate with a dried gelatin emulsion. Dry plates could be stored for a period of time. The photographers no longer had to portable darkrooms and they could now hire technicians to develop their own photographs.
