learning activity – acquainting yourself with the work process

Conduct research
To get the consumers interested in conducting research you have to get them involved. An example could be questionnaires, hand out forms to them so they can be a part, and say their opinion.

Clarify the strategy
As a designer i would have relevant information about and around the product. What is the product, who is it for, what do they want to achieve? The designer also have to think about the target group, design criteria, drivers & barriers, and so on.

Design the identity
My first step after the received feedback is to read it, and take the ideas, the good and the bad ones and make it even better later, and become a better designer.

Create touchpoints
Touchpoints is when the consumer/customer is in contact with the product or brand you have achieved. Like a poster, a business card, a flyer and so on.

Manage the assets
My answers for this question is to always stay positive! Always have good ideas and present them for other designers. Always think of you career and come close to your goals.

learning activity – workflow and backup

Draw a diagram of your preferred workflow and explain why you take certain steps.

It is important to have a good workflow. It is important that it is simple, effective, and that everything goes smooth between the client and the photographer.

When i do a photoshoot the first thing i do when i am finished is that i open Adobe Lightroom and check all my photos. I also do a backup with all my pictures, so that i dont loose any. And when everything is okay and the backup is complete, i can start editing my photos for the client.

backup

Create a checklist for your workflow.

1. Import images from the memory card
2. Open adobe Lightroom
3. Take backup for the photos
4. Start editing the photos
5. Send the pictures to the client

Take a screenshot of your folder structure.

Explain why creating backups are so important.

Backup is important because it is a big part of the photoshoot. If you dont take backup you could loose all your photographs from a photoshoot, and then the hard work is for nothing. Backup is a safety so the you are sure that you wont loose all that hard work. If you loose the photos you have to do the whole shoot over again, and that costs alot of money and time, for both the client and the photographer.

learning activity – planning a fashion shoot

Task 1.

In your own words, describe the procedure of planning a fashion shoot. You don’t need to go into too much detail, a short outline will do.
When you are planning a fashion shoot it is important that you have a good dialogue with the customer/model, you also need to do some work before the shoot, like what is the concept, pay attention to details, what equipment is important to use during the shoot to get the best pictures? Other things/details that are important is where the location, weather, crew and more.

What are the stylist’s duties?
The stylist`s duties is to listen to the customer and the photographer and make the model as good as possible, so the shoot is going the right way. Hair, make up and clothes is also the stylist`s duties. They have to stay there at the whole session and help if the hair or the make up runs off etc.

List your duties as photographer
The photographers duties is to

* Gather the crew, and make sure that everyone know what they are doing
* Make sure all the equipment is at its place
* Models & location
* Food and drink
* Make a schedule, so you know what`s next

What equipment would you take along on the Alice in Wonderland shoot that was featured in this module?
* Camera
* Two or more objects, the 50mm(!!)
* Reflector
* Diffuse box(es)
* Battery and charger
* Laptop
* External hard drive
* Memory card

Find an editorial fashion spread in a fashion magazine. Explain what you think the concept was, what equipment they used and how the location affected the concept. Scan or photograph the shoot and hand it in along with your answer.

I really like these three pictures. The model has a strong and intense glance, and the expression work really well with the location with the dark background. It makes the pictures more alive, i think. I like the way how to models fit in the picture. Even though they are both standing and sitting on a chair you can read much about the models, who they are.

I think the concept was to make an simple and good fashion shoot, with not to many details that could disturb the photos. The equipment the photographer have used is is a soft box, since there is a bit light to the left and right for the model. I also think that they have used an umbrella, so soften the light. I can se at the photographer has paid enough attention to the details of the model. I think the shoot is perfect for the concept, it`s simple, classy, just about enough light to make the shoot perfect.

Task 2 will come tomorrow 🙂
